The Actuarial department has an immediate opening for someone who can demonstrate the WCF values to join their team as a Data Scientist/Actuarial Modeler. This is a full-time, exempt position that is open to remote of hybrid working arrangements in the Sandy, Utah headquarters office. This position is open to internal and external candidates.
Responsibilities
The Data Scientist/Actuarial Modeler has a variety of responsibilities that support WCF's overall pricing functions. Those responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain actuarial models for pricing, and risk assessment using advanced statistical and machine learning methods.
- Analyze datasets to extract meaningful patterns and insight that inform strategic business decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including actuaries, underwriting, and IT professionals to integrate data-driven solutions into business processes.
- Design experiments and conduct hypothesis testing to validate models and improve accuracy.
- Communicate complex technical findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data science, actuarial science, and regulatory requirements.
- Preference for at least one of:
- Master's/PhD ins Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or a similar analytical field.
- Progress towards relevant professional credentials (e.g. ACAS, FCAS, CSPA).
- Proven experience (3+ years) in actuarial modeling, pricing, statistical analysis, and/or data science roles within the P&C insurance industry.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R or SQL for data manipulation and modeling.
- Solid understanding of actuarial principles and practices, including risk assessment and financial modeling.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
