The Chicano Studies program at UTEP includes a traditional in-person bachelor's degree as well as a 100% online bachelors degree.
Job Description:
The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a position of Lecturer in Chicano Studies. We are seeking an experienced educator who will teach three courses per semester in the Chicano Studies program, and two courses per semester for the Humanities program. Candidates must be prepared to teach classes focused on historical, social, political, and economic aspects of the Chicano experience. Courses to be taught include (but are not limited to) Introduction to Chicano Studies, Chicano Studies: Societal Issues, and Latino Presence in the U.S. The two courses for the Humanities program will study literature, art, history, and philosophy in modern society. Humanities courses to be taught include (but are not limited to) Protest in Art and Literature, Modern Culture and Thought, and American Cultural Studies. Experience in teaching in different formats is highly desirable. Knowledge of high-impact pedagogical practices such as community engagement or experiential learning is a plus (UTEP Edge ) Responsibilities include preparing and teaching in the areas listed above, holding regularly scheduled office hours, attending faculty meetings, participating in training sessions, developing and contributing materials to both programs, and engaging in the Chicano Studies program and Humanities program extracurricular activities.
Responsibilities:
Teach level Chicano Studies and Humanities courses.Deliver instruction in different modalities including face-to-face, Hybrid, and HyFlex models.Implement research-based best practices to deliver instruction through a fundamentally communicative approach with a content-based and/or task-based focus.Incorporate a variety of materials and teaching techniques to enhance student learning and outcomes and to maintain student interest.Evaluate student work using criteria relevant to the course content and learning objectives.Provide a classroom environment conducive to learning while establishing and maintaining classroom control.Attend meetings and/or professional development workshops/training as requested.Contribute to the development, administration, proctoring, and rating of the Chicano Studies and Humanities programs assessments.Keep current in area(s) of expertise and related to the subjects being taught.Adhere to the prescribed curriculum and standards.Participate in Chicano Studies program and Humanities program activities designed to enhance recruitment, student engagement, and retention.Maintain student attendance and performance records.Hours per Week:Full time - Work schedule to be established by the hiring department.
