Elementary Music Teacher

The Academy is looking for an experienced music teacher to be responsible for teaching music as part of the school curriculum. The music educator helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students
  • Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical performances
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student
  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances
  • Evaluates each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute
  • Communicates clearly with parents on the progress of individual students
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
  • Attend faculty meetings and parent-teacher conferences Successful music educators create an enjoyable learning environment to inspire young minds and help them grow in appreciation of music. Ultimately, a top-notch music teacher is skilled in playing musical instruments and planning opportunities for students to showcase their musical talents. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools is essential.

    Basic requirements include but are not limited to:

    • Minimum BA in Music or Music Education
    • Prior experience as a music teacher
    • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of music techniques
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
    • Capacity to supervise group work
    • Outstanding planning and problem-solving skills
    • Supportive, flexible disposition
    • Understands choral pedagogy
    • Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels
    • Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment
    • Orff training preferred
    • Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community
