Description

DEFINITION Under direction has charge of maintenance of municipal docks and supervises the docking of incoming and outgoing excursion and fishing boats and tankers; does other related duties as required

Examples of Duties

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Keeps schedules of past and future docking at the municipal dock including times of entry and departure, purpose, name of boat and registry, and number of people boarding the boat.

Keeps order among passengers waiting to board an excursion boat. Sees that gangplanks are securely fastened to the dock before being traversed by passengers. Watches to see that municipal property is not damaged or stolen. Sees that children playing near the dock are not injured. Gives first aid when needed. Maintains records and files.

Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

REQUIREMENTS:

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to preserve order among large crowds of people. Ability to work harmoniously with others. Ability to see that property is safeguarded from theft and damage. Ability to perform routine cleaning tasks on and around the dock and dock house. Ability to maintain records and files.

Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
