SENIOR QUALITY INSPECTOR - MECHANICAL

This role sits within our Quality Assurance team and will ensure hardware received and produced in the Rocket Lab Long Beach facility conforms to engineering requirements through efficient and effective detection methods. In this role you will help prevent faulty hardware from progressing in the manufacturing process and support root cause mitigation and elimination of failure modes. You will support the Quality Manager and Production organization, with deliverables required for internal leadership, board of directors, and investors.

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

Perform complex mechanical inspections for spacecraft assemblies and some purchased parts, 3D-printed components, large structures, CNC-machined items and electro-mechanical componentsPerform all types of precision inspections including receiving, in process and final assembly. This includes capability to effectively use hand measurement systems, optical comparator, microscope, Romer arm and Laser tracker.Thoroughly document non-conformances in accordance with Rocket Lab systems and procedures in our internal ERP, MES and Issue tracking system.Collaborate with engineering and management to improve work instructions and identify critical inspection points in the process.Embody a Built in Quality philosophy, consistently detecting non-conformances (Don't accept a Defect – Don't Pass a Defect) and preventing escapes to downstream customers. YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS AS A SENIOR QUALITY INSPECTOR - MECHANICAL8+ years of experience working in a quality assurance role in a quality mechanical manufacturing environment. Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)High school diploma or GEDTHESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE: High level of experience using hand measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, feeler gauges, pine gauges, thread gauges, surface roughness measurement, microscope etc. Some exposure to CMM using Calypso or PC Demis softwareExperience on using measurement instruments like comparatorsInspection experience with aerospace components & assembliesExperience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systemsSHIFT HOURS 12:00PM - 10:30PM Monday – ThursdayADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writingMust be physically able to commute to buildings Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noiseLevel and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
