Description


The Area Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and supportive residential community within the college. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Life, this position involves overseeing a designated area or cluster of residence halls. This a 12-month live-in position.

Responsibilities:

Residential Community Management:
  • Supervising and supporting a team of Resident Assistants (RAs) within the assigned area.
  • Implementing and upholding residence hall policies, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and conducive living environment.
  • Collaborating with maintenance and facilities staff to address housing-related issues promptly.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the residential area, including hall openings and closings, room assignments, and occupancy management.
Student Support and Advising:
  • Providing guidance and support to students living in the residence halls, addressing their concerns, and fostering a sense of community.
  • Advising residents on personal, social, and academic matters, connecting them with appropriate campus resources when needed.
  • Conducting regular meetings with RAs to discuss resident concerns, programming initiatives, and policy enforcement.
Programming and Community Development:
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing diverse programming initiatives to enhance the residential experience, including educational, social, and cultural events.
  • Collaborating with RAs and student leaders to organize community-building activities, workshops, and initiatives that promote engagement and inclusivity.
  • Facilitating learning communities or specialized interest housing, creating opportunities for shared interests among residents.
Crisis Management and Conflict Resolution:
  • Responding effectively to emergency situations within the residential area, working in conjunction with campus security or emergency services when necessary.
  • Mediating conflicts among residents and facilitating conflict resolution processes when disputes arise.
  • Serving as a conduct hearing officer as needed, ensuring fair and consistent enforcement of residence hall policies.
  • Actively engaging with the Dillon Police Department regarding safety concerns
Participating in on-call duties for at least one week monthly.Administrative Duties:
  • Maintaining accurate records, reports, and documentation related to residential operations, incidents, and programming efforts.
  • Collaborating with higher administration on initiatives, budget management, and strategic planning for residential life.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate/Bachelor's degree required
  • Previous experience in residence life or student affairs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of student development theories and best practices in residential life.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic campus environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and respond to emergencies as needed.

The Area Coordinator role is integral to creating a supportive and engaging residential community, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for students within the college's housing facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

· Master's degree in higher education, counseling, education, or a related field.
