Summary

The Incumbent provides support services as receptionist for the Office of the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) and Is responsible for directing patients and telephone calls to the appropriate individuals within PSAS or other services of the Medical Center.

Incumbent has a high degree of visibility throughout the medical center and the general public as a result of direct patient care contact with the veteran population, many who are severely disabled.

Duties

Provides Customer Service by assisting Purchasing Agents in processing of prosthetic requests and prescriptions for items, services & durable medical equipment from physicians, therapists, medical center personnel, patients or their representatives.

The incumbent interviews veterans reporting to the service and receive phone calls from beneficiaries. In the event of an unfavorable decision, the incumbent advises the veteran of his appellate rights.

Advises the patient, family member or other representativeon equipment safety and maintenance to include the appropriate use of the ProstheticService Card (PSC) for obtaining repairs.

Receives and reviews prosthetic requests for completeness, comparing disability or diagnosis to equipment and for services normally provided for the condition for which they are requested and for proper documentation has been provided to justify the issuance; Distributes prescriptions, requisitions, and procurement documents, mail, etc.

Examines clinical health records folders to determine legal eligibility and medical entitlement for prosthetic items end services based on adopted criteria and advises veteran of the same.

The incumbent operates, the PSAS software package to maintain a detailed and accurate accounting of all actions taken for veterans and documents their records (VAF showing Items or services provided.

This includes fiscal transactions, prosthetic appliances/services, equipment repairsor recalls and all specialized benefits, i.e., clothing allowance, PSC, arid auto adaptive equipment.

Assist in the collection of data and preparation of reports generated by the Prosthetic software package. Reviews reports and researches errors or conflicting information in procurement documentation.

Provides support for the word processing, typing, proofreading, copying, and filing contract documents in contract files and distribution of reports and various correspondence.

Work is performed using office automation equipment (PC, document scanner, fax, copier, label maker, MS Office, OHCP, IFCAP, VISTA, CPRS & other prosthetic software packages).

In the performance of official duties, the incumbent has regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive information which must be protected.

Performs other related as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
