Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a highly skilled developer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing our various products across an array of technologies. An ideal candidate will be a self-starter, a good communicator, and be willing to wear many hats within the small organization.

To ensure success, you should have in-depth knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, Android app development, and Google Cloud Platform (and Firebase). Additionally, the ideal candidate should be able to design and build modern applications and enhance application performance.

Responsibilities

Meeting with the team to discuss needs, gather requirements, and develop timelines
Developing and implementing quickly and adhere to agreed upon timelines
Building reusable code and libraries for future use
Integration of user-facing elements with server-side logic
Code using Typescript and Java
Utilize frameworks like Android, , and NodeJS
Troubleshooting software and debugging application code
Monitoring and improving front-end performance
Documenting application changes and developing updates
Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability
Implementation of security and data protection
Develop and maintain functional test cases, system and integration test cases, and test artifacts such as test data, test cases, and automated scripts used in software development lifecycle (SDLC)
Review functional requirements and determine the data requirements for executing the use cases end-to-end from creating functional manual cases to automating the cases for regression
Execute all manual and automated test cases that validate the functionalities, code quality, and report/document test results, following all formal test architectures and project processes.
Research emerging test tools, trends, and methodologies and enhance existing systems and processes
Managing and/or delegating test methodologies, test automation, coding standards, and best practices through code reviews and designing test plans

Requirements

Excitement about designing and building for the future of learning, grassroots entrepreneurship, and access to finance for micro- to small businesses in Africa
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science, information technology, or a similar field
5+ years (senior) or 1+ year experience (junior) working as a developer
In-depth knowledge of Typescript, Java, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, Python, PHP
Knowledge of React tools including , Webpack, and Redux
Knowledge of NodeJs, Express, and serverless technologies
Knowledge of Google Cloud and Firebase
Knowledge of Android development utilizing Java programming language
Experience with user interface design
Experience with browser-based debugging and performance testing software
Ownership and autonomy to work on tasks and be proactive in managing tasks through completion
Familiar with mobile testing tools and frameworks (i.e. Appium, RobotFramework, Espresso, etc.)
Experience with using virtual environments, source control, remote development, issue tracking, product build and installation
Excellent troubleshooting skills
Good project management skills

About the team

We are an ambitious and hard-working team based in Sierra Leone, with remote workers spread across West and East Africa and Europe. We work quickly and obsess over inclusive, human-centered design of our platform and channels. That means we spend a lot of time with our users and partner organizations. Collaboration and execution are the themes of our working days. The team is currently 7 total people and we will be expanding over the coming months.
