Qualifications: Understanding of adolescent development; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Excellent organizational skills; Ability to facilitate group efforts; Computer competence with Microsoft Office applications; Experience with culturally diverse groups preferred.

Job Summary: To advance key measures outlined in the Drug Free Communities grant as a champion of youth substance abuse prevention, including leading youth education and advocacy efforts. Establish and strengthen Grand Forks Community Collaboration efforts to prevent and reduce youth substance abuse by promoting education and environmental change.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Promote and retain a strong partnership between the schools and community agencies/organizations for the purpose of youth wellness and substance abuse prevention.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of various prevention activities for community, youth and families.
  • Organize and/or provide substance prevention-based presentations or otherwise engage in community agency, school, or businesses outreach surrounding prevention issues and wellness.
  • Facilitate meetings and establish collaborative community-based prevention goals and action steps with the Grand Forks Substance Abuse and Prevention Coalition.
  • Create publications and presentations to enhance prevention education efforts.
  • Administer, compile, interpret and present the Grand Forks Public Schools Risk and Protective Factors Survey for grades 4-12 (local, state, and national).
  • Determine risk and protective factors for youth within our community. Use that information to create public awareness and support programs that target the elimination of the risk factors that support the protective factors.
  • Work with school counselors, administrators, and staff on issues of adolescent alcohol/drug use and character education development, preschool-grade 12.
  • Coordinate the Youth Gaining Opportunities, Recognition and Skills (YORS) at each secondary school, and coordinate the Grand Forks Youth Commission in partnership with the City of Grand Forks.
  • Actively engage with youth leaders to promote healthy activities, positive decision-making, and community stewardship.
  • Attend required grant-related trainings and engage in ongoing professional growth.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records of programs and projects including volunteer participation, participant re/post test evaluations, community or student surveys, and in-kind donations.
  • Co-manage facilitation of the summer Helping Hands volunteer program
  • Assist with the development of grant-related documents and reports.
  • Model professionalism, collaboration, and effective communication.
  • Uphold the overall mission, vision and goals of Grand Forks Public Schools and professionally represent our organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

    Terms of Employment: Ten (10) months, full-time Monday through Friday. Flexible schedule requiring some evening or weekend work may be required. This is a grant funded position (four years).

    Evaluation: Annual written evaluation by the Associate Superintendent of Secondary Education.
