County of El Paso Jobs – Deputy Coroner I

• Categorizes autopsy photo slides.
• Prepares decedent and autopsy suite for autopsies by weighing, measuring, and photographing the decedent, and setting up tools, supplies and evidence gathering equipment.
• Assists the medical examiner in performing the autopsy and becomes the custodian of all evidence collected during the autopsy.
• Cleans the autopsy suite, including laundering of autopsy gowns and proper disposal of contaminated/biohazard waste.
• Assists the investigator with pertinent autopsy paperwork.
• Cleans and stocks the autopsy suite.
• Prepares the decedent for release to the funeral home, including documentation and release of the decedent's personal property and evidence to law enforcement officials. Prepares and provides professional testimony in court, relation to certain cases.

• Ability to work with deceased persons.
• Ability to maintain professional composure when communicating with the Coroner's staff, hospital staff, law enforcement agencies, funeral homes, families of decedents, and the general public.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, physical examination and drug screen.

• High school diploma with anatomy/physiology coursework preferred.
• Work experience relating to the position.
