Department Description
The Stanford Eye Laser Center is a prestigious academic refractive surgical service, offering the latest cutting edge technologies including: Wavefront Lasik, Intralasik and Phaic Intra-Ocular Lenses.

A Brief Overview
Under the general supervision of the clinical nurse manager, physician, and supervisor, the Ophthalmic Tech I performs entry level technical duties as well as administrative and examination room inventory and support. Perform an array of measurements and ophthalmic testing as requested by the physician and medical staff. The Sterile Processing Educator is appointed, directed and evaluated by the Director of Sterile Processing.

What you will do

  • Accurately and correctly measures autorefraction, corneal curvature and patient's axial length with the A-Scan unit.
  • Accurately and correctly measures patient's intraocular pressure using applanation tonometer and Tonopen.
  • Accurately and correctly performs and records visual acuity, both distance and near, used pinhole and appropriate.
  • Accurately and correctly performs diagnostic ultrasound, both A and B Scan modes.
  • Accurately and correctly performs visual field testing using Goldman and Humphrey testing procedures.
  • Fill out Treatment Authorization Requests (TAR'S) along with Rx when medicinal prescriptions are put through with MCAL for coverage.
  • Follows policy/procedure to instill eye drops and administer medication.
  • Look up individual patient's medical records for pertinent medical notes.
  • Performs eye irrigations according to physician's order and written procedure.
  • Send out copies of last eye exams to noted individual/organization when completed release of information form is received.
  • Stock clinic rooms with tissue, cotton tipped applicators, evaluation material, diagnostic ophthalmic drops, and forms.
  • Uncover all the instruments in the rooms, turn on the computers and clean up the rooms if necessary.


Education Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.


Experience Qualifications

  • One (1) year of directly related work experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent client relationship, exhibit exemplary interpersonal skills and exercise sound judgment and professionalism in business and personnel matters.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive verbal and written information.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.
  • Knowledge and use of eye drops and medications.
  • Knowledge and use of ophthalmic eye instruments and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic environment and laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations.

  • BLS - Basic Life Support

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $ $35.50 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
