SUMMARY
Provides legal advice and representation to the Company. Manages complex litigation, investigations, and regulatory compliance issues. Supervises outside counsel on a regular basis. Reports to Vice President and General Counsel. Acts independently in scheduling activities and work, subject to requests of the General Counsel. Will interact with all functions in the Company.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Manage and oversee the resolution of company litigation matters, investigations and administrative matters.
- Advise and interact directly with middle and senior management.
- Collaborate cross functionally with all departments of the Company to identify and mitigate risk.
- Draft legal briefs, contracts, leases, settlement documents.
- Negotiate with third parties regarding agreements, settlements and regulatory compliance.
- Represents the Company in legal actions and before public bodies.
- Manage outside counsel in litigation and administrative matters of significance to enterprise.
- In all actions, acting as legal advisor within limits of authority granted by management.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- State Bar Membership or California Registered In house counsel required.
- At least 10 years of substantive work experience with litigating state and federal court and administrative matters, particularly employment law compliance, investigations, and counseling, labor law issues, contract negotiations and disputes, writing policies and procedures, and corporate governance.
- Knowledge of and experience in at least three of the following areas: labor and employment law, environmental law, U.
- Thorough knowledge of law applicable to matters for which advice and representation is required, and ability to judiciously use outside counsel to fill in specialized gaps
- Experience managing outside counsel and legal budget oversight
- Excellent communication skills to translate legal requirements into business prerogatives.
- Excellent writing skills
- Must be able to relate to employees at all levels
- Capable of acting on behalf of General Counsel in his or her absence.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Will be expected to resolve litigation on most favorable business terms possible; expected to manage and stay within established budgets for outside counsel; expected to be an active participant in Company's Continuous Improvement culture.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work primarily conducted in an office setting with good lighting.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Must be physically able to commute to buildings throughout the shipyard. Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.PAY SCALE

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role.
It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
