Head of Lower School

North Yarmouth Academy seeks a full-time Head of Lower School to begin July 1, 2024. NYA is a college preparatory school serving 400 students, toddler-grade 12.

The Head of Lower School will provide leadership, oversight, and supervision over NYA's Lower School faculty and program. They will also serve as the Director of Early Childhood in charge of compliance with DHHS guidelines. The NYA Lower School encompasses toddler to grade 4, with approximately 140 students and 25 faculty members. The Head of Lower School is a senior administrative position, working closely with the NYA's Head of School, senior staff, and Lower School faculty and staff.

Major job responsibilities include:

• Leadership of the Lower School faculty, staff, and students.
• Supervision and support of Lower School faculty and staff.
• Supervision of NYA's Director of After Care.
• Development and oversight of the Lower School academic schedule.
• Serving as Director of the Early Childhood Program and key liaison between school and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
• Ensure compliance with all DHHS early childhood guidelines. Early Childhood follows a Montessori curriculum.
• Providing a clear and coherent vision and oversight of the Lower School program and communicating it to faculty, current and prospective families, and the NYA Board of Trustees.
• Collaborating closely with NYA's Faculty Academic Committee, Head of Middle School, and Head of Upper School to ensure the Lower School is aligned with the overall school mission and culture.
• Providing a visible presence during school day and at school events.
• Building community through developing clear lines of communication and trusting relationships with faculty, families, staff, and students.
• Partnering with the admission team through promoting the Lower School to prospective families and serving as a member of the Lower School Admission Committee.
• Supporting other mission areas as needed, including but not limited to admission and classroom support.. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, senior administrative position.
