Assistant Professor

JOB PURPOSE:

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) of the University of Wyoming includes 10 departments and the newly formed School of Computing. The College prides itself on research innovation, teaching excellence, industrial engagement, and broader societal impact. With a significantly increased budget, we have embarked on a transformational journey to become a Tier-1 Institution, recognized nationally for academic excellence and world-class research. This includes new state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated funding for research initiatives. We are hiring a cohort of new faculty across the College, and we seek to attract a diverse and inclusive group of talented early-stage faculty and established researchers.

The Department of Civil & Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor (tenure-track) beginning August 2024. Candidates are sought with expertise in Structural Engineering. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefited position.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management includes 24 faculty members and serves approximately 440 students. At the undergraduate level we have ABET-accredited B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering, a B.S. degree in Construction Management, and a Certificate in Cadastral Surveying. The successful candidate will have access to a large-scale testing facility with a 2,400 sq. foot strong floor and 16 ft long by 18 ft tall strong wall. The lab is outfitted for robust structural testing operations with room to expand into materials engineering.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of the position are:

To teach undergraduate courses in Civil and Architectural Engineering, typically three courses per year.
To conduct research in structural or materials engineering. A successful research program is characterized by externally-funded projects, refereed publications, recruitment and supervision of graduate students, national and international presentations.
To perform service to the home Department, College, and the University.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a focus on structures or materials
Demonstrated ability to conduct research in structural or materials engineering
Ability (subject matter expertise) to teach courses in structural engineering at the university level
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Experience teaching courses in structural engineering at the university level
Clear vision for future research including plans for external funding
Professional experience in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry
PE or eligibility for PE licensure
