Lansdowne Friends School is an independent Quaker PK-6 program of 105 students, the majority of whom identify as students of color. The progressive, child-centered program is organized around themes which serve as a spine from which skills and content flow. The older grades meet in vertical classrooms of two grades (eg, combined first and second grade).

Employment Status: This is a full-time, overtime-exempt administrative position that follows either a 10-month or 12-month administrative calendar (to be negotiated with selected candidate). The position reports directly to the Head of School. Salary and benefits are competitive, and include health, dental, vision, retirement, and professional development.

Position Overview: This position is responsible for ensuring culturally-responsive instructional leadership of the PK-6 program, with emphasis in literacy and math, and for organizing broad leadership of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The position is an active member of the school's senior leadership team, which collaborates weekly to optimize the school's operations and strategic direction.

Responsibilities :

  • Review the existing curriculum in all grades and subjects, as well as current assessment data
  • Continuously meet with teachers, individually and in cohorts, to understand and appreciate curricular and instructional choices
  • In partnership with teachers and Head, utilize evidence-based research to propose, implement, and manage curricular and instructional enhancements that ensure an exciting and culturally-appropriate developmental arc for all students
  • Meet regularly with each of the 14 Homeroom and Specials teachers to support growth
  • Periodically review assessment data, teachers' observations, and classroom visit data to make evidence-based refinements in curriculum and instruction
  • In partnership with other administrators, imagine and operationalize transformational school programming and professional development in areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ensure that classrooms, special and parent programming, and school communications and website reflect culturally-responsive messaging
  • Co-facilitate Family Association
  • Convene all accreditation visits
  • Regularly contribute content to school's social media feeds and school publications
    • Relevant Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
    • Minimum 4 years teaching experience at the lower school level
    • Evidence of curriculum leadership and management at the lower school level
    • Evidence of training for, and leadership of, programs in diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Effective written and spoken communication skills
    • Affinity with Quaker values and mission of LFS
    • Evidence of successful collaboration
    • Flexibility, drive, and a sense of humor
