Pinecrest Academy, located north of Atlanta, is seeking resumes for an experienced PreK-8th Grade Counselor for the academic year. Candidates must have a degree in the field and be prepared to assist in athletic and co-curricular activities. An advanced educational degree and certification are desired. Position Overview
The school counselor is responsible for implementing and delivering a comprehensive school counseling program to address all students' needs in academic achievement, personal and social development, and career development. The school counselor achieves this through counseling, collaboration, and coordination of services with all stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community resources). The school counselor aims to provide individual attention and facilitate students' integral formation.

Academic Planning/Achievement Consultation

  • Consults with students, parents, teachers, and Learning Specialists to facilitate student's learning (organization skills, time management, study skills, goal setting)
  • Regularly monitor student's academic progress
  • Attend and participate in parent/student/teacher meetings as requested

Transition Plans

  • Assists with new student support and transition activities (rising 6th & 9th grade students in particular)

Referrals

  • Refers students to outside tutoring and/or social-emotional support as necessary

Personal/Social Counseling Services

  • Works with the Principal, Dean of Students, and Campus Ministry to identify and resolve student issues, needs, and problems
  • As necessary, refer students (and parents) to special programs, specialists, or other outside agencies
  • Develop and direct individual and/or group sessions to identify and address students needs and concerns
  • Works directly with the Administration team in cases of abuse/neglect, suicide, self-harm
  • Helps students understand conflict mediation with peers
  • Provides age-appropriate classroom-level guidance relating to social-emotional and developmental needs of students

Staff Development

  • Provide staff development training on pertinent topics of interest to teachers

Testing

  • Assists academic team in interpreting cognitive, aptitude, and achievement tests

  • Master's Degree in School Counseling desired
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and impeccable organization and management skills
