POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to provide preventive maintenance which includes electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and associated skills, as well as repairing or replacing various items of furniture and equipment necessary to maintain buildings for the comfort and safety of both patients and staff at a large county health department, consisting of four buildings, four on-site storage facilities, and twelve satellite facilities. As designated Emergency Essential Personnel, this position reports to the normal work site or accepts assignments to a designated jurisdiction, performs essential services and duties after an emergency condition is declared, to cover immediate needs as the situation demands.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Eighth grade. \r
Experience: Four (4) years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three (3) years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning. \r
Notes:�1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.\r
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field�for up to three years of the required general experience.\r
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair�classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in�any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience in the following:\r

changing HVAC filters and checking boiler temperatures\r
performing minor furniture repair and assembly\r
using a computer at a basic to intermediate level\r
\r
\r

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r
