Position Information
The NDSU Landscape Architecture program is a fully LAAB-accredited graduate program with a 40-year history of landscape architecture in the upper Great Plains in Fargo, ND. The department is growing in the School of Design, Architecture + Art, which offers degrees in Landscape Architecture, Emergency Management, Architecture, Interior Design, Visual Arts, Art Education, and Apparel and Retail Merchandising. We offer collaborative teaching, research, and service-learning across three departments: Art + Design, Landscape Architecture, and Architecture. Our facilities are in downtown Fargo, boasting a 94 Walk Score and an 86 Bike Score. NDSU is a Land Grant and a Carnegie-designated research (R1) institution.

The Assistant Professor position is a 9-month tenure-track or advanced tenure-track, full-time, benefited faculty position starting in August 2024. We are seeking candidates with focused research and foundational design abilities. Teaching responsibilities include a lecture or seminar course and a design studio each semester. Other activities include program and departmental governance, pursuing research and scholarly activities, and advising students with their graduate thesis design and research. Minimum Qualifications

Credentials, One of the following:
Master's Degree in landscape architecture (MLA), plus landscape architecture licensure or;
Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA), plus a master's degree in a closely-related field, or;
PhD in Landscape Architecture or closely-related field*
*Professional licensure in progress, second master's degree in progress, or ABD will be considered
Excellent oral and verbal communication skills and willingness to collaborate with diverse faculty and staff.
Representation skills include hand drawing and computer-based methods that can integrate these skills into coursework and research as required.
Demonstrate potential to develop an area of expertise for peer-reviewed research/creative activities such as digital technology, performance-based design, sustainability, ecological design, resiliency planning, or geographic information systems.
Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture or a closely-related field*
*Professional licensure in progress, second master's degree in progress, or ABD will be considered
Studio teaching experience in an accredited Landscape Architecture degree program.
Ability to teach Landscape Architecture seminars based on the candidate's expertise, such as digital technology, performance-based design, sustainability, ecological design, resiliency planning, or geographic information systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, processes, and practices of design thinking and professional practice in landscape architecture.
Record of individual research and publication.
Record of obtaining external funding through collaborative grant work.
