This position is located within the medical treatment facility (MTF). This position is a Primary CarePhysician (Internal Medicine Specialist) who works in conjunction with Primary Care Physicians,Nurse Corps Officers, civilian nurses and Hospital Corpsmen, and may provide oversight for NursePractitioners, Physician Assistants, Medical Students, Residents and Interns while deliveringappropriate quality diagnosis and treatment to all eligible military personnel, retirees, familymembers, and civilian personnel in a primary care setting. The Service Line, as a whole, is alsoresponsible for the supervision, education, and training of Internal Medicine trainees who arerequired to have continuing outpatient clinic experience. He/she may be responsible for trackingclinical outcomes and coordinating the activities of the medical staff within the outpatient clinic. Theincumbent serves in the Primary Care Internal Medicine Service in a large hospital which has highlyspecialized equipment and facilities and which conducts extensive teaching programs. He/sheserves as a consultant in internal medicine on cases of the most unusual or controversial nature, aswell as clinics engaged in specialized internal medicine work. He/she may also train interns,residents, and medical students in clinical internal medicine. He/she shall be responsible to theChief of Service of the Service Line (i.e., Primary Care Internal Medicine or Primary Care FamilyHealth Center), Service Line Leader (Primary Care Service Line) and Director for Prevention and Wellness for ensuring the delivery of appropriate, quality treatment and diagnosis to active dutymilitary beneficiaries, retired, and civilian personnel for medical care in the Primary Care InternalMedicine Service. He/she will serve in the following capacities: consultant and advisor; medicalrepresentative on boards and committees; participant in conferences and other activities involvingthe health care of the population served.

Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

Responsibilities

As a Physician (Internal Medicine) you will:

Functions as a primary care manager and team member of a collaborative health care team in the delivery of comprehensive health care and health maintenance in a primary care setting. This includes care of patients with acute episodic or chronic illnesses, emergency care, rehabilitation, preventive health measures, health maintenance, and health education services. Provide services to include, examination, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of adults, usually 18 years of age or older. Exercise independent judgment with full responsibility for professional diagnosis, treatment, referral, and disposition of patients. Take ownership, responsibility for care of assigned panel of patients. Lead a multi-disciplinary team of individuals who collectively takes responsibility for the ongoing care of patients. Complete required records pertaining to all medical services provided in accordance with specified procedures and regulations. Properly safeguards all reports and records. Coordinate and integrates care across all elements of the healthcare system.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Physician (Internal Medicine):

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Residency Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled(Internal Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
