The incumbent serves as a Security Guard assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations.

This position functions as the first layer of defense in a security-in-depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access to Army installations restricted to the general public.

Guards are responsible for preserving the life, health and safety of government personnel and safeguarding Army property, and technologies against such threats as:

unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction on installations which secure one or more of the following; assets deemed critical to national security, surety (chemical, nuclear, biological) sites, research and development facilities or laboratories, Army Service Schools or Centers of Excellence, national treasures, Mobilization Force Generation Installations and Power Projection Platforms, hospitals or medical centers and major command headquarters .

Guards determine fitness and grant access to those individuals that have met screening requirements and demonstrated a need to access the installation.

Guards provide significant support of the overall installation Antiterrorism/ Force Protection (AT/ FP) capability by providing the emergency base closure, active shooter response, execution of random antiterrorism measure, physical security emergency response to an all hazards disaster and an active physical deterrent against criminal and terrorist activities targeted against US Army installations.
