Brunswick Surfin' Turfs (Old North State League)
WHO WE ARE The Surfin' Turfs, located in Brunswick County, North Carolina (between Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC), are a member of the Old North State League, the second-largest collegiate summer league in the country. The Surfin' Turfs won the Old North State League regular season championship in 2023 and won the Southeast Division First-Half Championship in 2024. Brunswick County is made up of 4 islands and other coastal towns, making it one of the largest tourist attractions on the East Coast. The Surfin' Turfs play all of their home games at Founders Field in Bolivia, NC.
The Old North State League began operations in 2018 and quickly gathered a reputation for being player-friendly. This reputation has grown the ONSL into the second-largest collegiate summer baseball league in the country. In 2023, the Old North State League became the first Official Partner League of The Players League.
THE POSITION The Brunswick Surfin' Turfs are looking for a Head Coach in Brunswick County, North Carolina who is passionate and dedicated to developing college athletes into professional baseball players. As the Head Coach, you will recruit at least 35 players each season, adhere to all ONSL guidelines, and build upon the long-term relationships that the organization has developed. We are looking for a coach who has a broad network and deep connections with the top baseball programs in the region and country and can recruit top talent/future MLB draft picks. The ideal coaching candidate will be committed to professionalism, player development, sportsmanship, and community involvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit and retain 35+ full-time players each season from the top programs in the region and country
• Maintain a consistently talented team
• Responsible for adhering to all Old North State League guidelines (player contracts, rules, etc.)
• Oversee one additional coach with specialties to help provide the best development, accountability, and most enjoyable experience for each player
• Oversee and manage roster, player behavior, etc.
• Create, and maintain an updated list of coach and school contacts
• Manage communication with the General Manager on player arrival dates, transportation, and other player-related information
• Serve as the main point of contact for all player communication
• Provide consistent roster updates off-season and in-season via spreadsheet
• Ensure coaches and players are at special events, community events, and camps. The Surfin' Turfs are highly involved with supporting the local youth baseball teams at their games.
• Responsible for baseball camps station activities, team timeline, and Surfin' Turfs' players' participation and responsibilities
• Along with coaches and players, assist with field maintenance as needed, including field dragging, raking, tarp pulls, lining the field, and occasionally mowing or spraying for weeds in the dirt/warning track.
• Ensure the team maintains a clean player facility, dugouts, bullpens, etc.
• Responsible for driving the team bus to away games.
• Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous baseball coaching experience required
• Dedicated to developing young players, winning games, and leading a team centered around creating the best environment for players, fans, and the community
• Valid North Carolina CDL with Passenger Endorsements
• Strong knowledge and experience of baseball rules; knowledge of Old North State League guidelines preferred
• Deep network and connections with college coaches at top programs in the country and ability to recruit top talent
• Strong work ethic and dedication to professionalism
• Ability to make an impact while holding players and staff accountable
• Ability to maintain a generally positive attitude, even in stressful times and situations
• Excellent relationship-building skills
• Demonstrate strong leadership and motivational skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
• Inspired to perform well to help contribute to the success of players and the team
• Ability to work long hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays as determined by scheduled events or requirements
• Candidates local to North Carolina and the Brunswick County area will be given strong consideration
