POSITION DESCRIPTION

The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups.

The Rossier School of Education's Office of Research seeks a Program Specialist to support the administration of its programs and research activities.

The ideal candidate will have writing and editorial skills; and have experience with program planning, project and budget management; be familiar with financial processes; have strong communication and interpersonal skills; and enjoy working as part of a team.

Detailed Job Responsibilities

  • Supports the Associate Dean for Research and Assistant Dean for Research, and in the development, implementation, and execution of initiatives in the Rossier Office of Research.
  • Assists in the administration and coordination of a variety of research and/or administrative projects, including compiling and writing a monthly newsletter, managing financial accounts, website updates, coordinating guest lectures and conferences, and research communications.
  • Assist with on-boarding visiting scholars.
  • Participates in writing of reports or other documentation of project status and/or administrative activities or project results.
  • Assists in writing and editing of grant proposals and nomination letters. Maintains up-to-date lists of Center activities and assists faculty in seeking grant support.
  • Researches and identifies new funding opportunities for the School. Develops boilerplate grant language and templates to be used in grant proposals.
  • Interfaces with faculty and/or staff and external contacts necessary to complete project assignments or for information exchange.
  • Resolves problems or questions referred by project staff or administrators.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to work independently, with strong administrative skills and an interest in scholarly work and public engagement in the Rossier School of Education's research areas.

Minimum Field of Expertise:

Experience in the area of program management with strong writing and editorial skills.

Preferred Experience:

3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Field of Expertise:

  • Experience in the area of project/program management, writing and editing.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets and database software.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, using judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to meet and manage deadlines, work independently and well under pressure.
  • Possess strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Experience working in an academic institution and diverse workplace preferred.

The hourly pay range for this position is $30.27-$34.31. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 2 years

Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related professional experience in program specialization, e.g., counseling or teaching.
