The role of Gardener responsible for maintaining the appearance of the gardens and grounds in the hotel's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Tasks include but are not limited to responsibilities for physically performing garden labor (planting, clearing, and mowing the property), operation of loud equipment and transporting work materials/equipment in all weather conditions, ensuring the lawn, trees, and hedges are kept to the required standard to deliver an excellent Guest & Team Member experience. Assist the Director of Engineering and working supervisor with any other special projects/assignments.


JOB DUTIES:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. On a daily basis, perform routine maintenance with limited supervision to maintain the appearance of the hotel gardens and grounds to ensure a pleasant appearance by applying landscaping techniques for maximum growth, maintaining, cleaning, transplanting, replacing and repairs including but not limited to: Leaf blowing around the entire property, Pruning, Fertilizing, Planting, Weeding, Trimming, Pruning, Mulching, Watering, Mowing, Raking, Cleaning Fountains, Planters, Install new plants/flowers/grass/trees/bulbs/shrubs, Lawn maintenance, Irrigation
  2. Ensure trees and hedges are trimmed to the required standard
  3. Maintain lawns by mowing, edging, raking leaves, and performing other lawn maintenance.
  4. Install, maintain, and operate irrigation and pump systems (where applicable) and report malfunctions
  5. Ensure leaves are cleared from the pathway. Remove and bag trash from all exterior trash cans.
  6. Apply pesticides and chemicals using appropriate safety equipment as provided and according to departmental policies and procedures as needed. Keep and maintain records of all chemical applications. Report pests and/or disease problems, as needed
  7. Process and complete all work orders assigned in a safe and professional manner. Maintain communications with supervisors to ensure that all needed materials, tools and supplies are available or on order. Follow up on any items that may be on back order. Keep supervisor updated on assignments.
  8. Clean, lubricate, protect and be responsible for routine maintenance of all landscaping tools and equipment including but not limited to: push mowers, backpack blowers, rototiller, edger, gas hedge shears. Ensure all tools used are returned to the shop and secured in proper storage area. To protect and otherwise maintain your assigned tool pouch and its tools at the discretion of the Engineering Management.
  9. Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report defective equipment, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; complete required safety training and certifications.
  10. Greet and respond to guest inquiries in a timely, friendly and efficient manner
  11. Assist fellow team members and other departments wherever necessary to maintain positive working relationships
  12. Perform duties, special projects and other responsibilities as assigned by manager.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  1. Position requires proficiency in landscaping/gardening replacement / repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment.
  2. Knowledge of plant and tree care.
  3. Ability to identify common garden pests and diseases.
  4. Familiarity with proper use of various gardening tools and equipment.
  5. Ability to follow safety protocols.
  6. Flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations
  7. Ability to work under pressure and deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  8. Must be highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  9. Ability to complete complicated task by using job knowledge and skills, and to be able to vary such that the assigned task is completed in a professional manner
  10. Ability to read and understand various written communication, instructions, SDS data and adhere to all safety and emergency policies and procedures.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with all organizational levels. Must include written and verbal skills.
  12. Strong dedication to supporting facility by working in a safe, customer focused manner.
  13. Ability to understand and give personal attention, take personal responsibility and use teamwork when addressing and providing guest service needs.
  14. Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when providing service to Guests.

  16. Ability to work cohesively and converse calmly with irate Guests', co-workers or supervisors in sometimes tense situations.

  18. Ability to arrive at work on time in full uniform prepared with tools and all equipment needed for service. Clock in and out; sign in and out for each shift.
  19. Ability to keep work area clean and neat, free from dust and litter.
  20. Ability to adhere to all hotel policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Meets Education and Experience requirements
  • Basic ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing English with Guests, management and co-workers. Bilingual is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Safety Awareness information (such as SDS), operating and maintenance instructions. Ability to write routine reports, keep logs and correspondence.
  • Ability to use hotel communication systems i.e., HotSOS.
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
