SUMMARY

Hathaway Brown School seeks a Librarian for their Infant and Toddler Center, Early Childhood & Primary School to inspire the next generation of readers. This role offers the unique opportunity to engage with and nurture young minds, from the earliest stages of infancy to the vibrant world of fourth-grade students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the school library, ensuring a welcoming, organized space conducive to learning and exploration.
  • Be a positive ambassador for HB as the library is the premier space in the Primary/EC area and will be a critical anchor to our mission of "learning for life."
  • Develop and maintain a diverse collection of books, resources, and educational materials suitable for early childhood and elementary school students.
  • Collaborate with teachers to make cross-curricular connections.
  • Foster a love for reading through engaging storytelling sessions, book clubs, and other literacy-focused programs.
  • Provide instruction on library research skills, digital literacy, and information literacy to students, empowering them to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
  • Assist students in selecting books matching their interests and reading levels, differentiating each child and promoting independent reading and self-discovery.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies during library visits, ensuring a positive and respectful learning environment for all students.
  • Stay current with children's literature, educational technology, and library science developments, continually enhancing your knowledge and skills.
    • Experience working with children in an educational setting, focusing on early childhood and elementary school age groups.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to efficiently manage library resources, materials, and circulation systems.
    • Passion for promoting literacy and a deep appreciation for children's literature.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.
    • Knowledge of classroom management techniques and strategies for engaging young learners.
    • Proficiency in or willingness to learn educational technology and digital resources relevant to library services.
    • Commitment to creating an inclusive and culturally responsive library environment that celebrates diversity and equity.
