The primary responsibilities of the Payroll Practitioner 1 is to be responsible for processing payroll, maintaining employee personnel records, and conducting payroll reporting and auditing/quality control duties.

  • Checking and auditing timekeeping records for compliance with established standards.
  • Maintaining time and attendance records.
  • Entering and auditing pertinent new hire information into the payroll/timekeeping system (W-4's and Direct Deposits).
  • Performs a wide variety of payroll processing activities including computing wages, overtime payments, and retroactive amounts, calculating and recording payroll deductions and processing terminations.
  • Balancing and controlling earning and deduction uploads, via entering data into databases and spreadsheets.
  • Calculating and preparing GL entries for tax related items.
  • Researching and resolving pay issues.
  • Processing wage garnishments and levies.
  • Ability to create ad-hoc reports on demand.
  • Help develop new process flows to streamline processes.
Required Skills:
  • Must be detail oriented, organized and accurate.
  • Microsoft Excel Intermediate or Advanced.
  • Must be able to analyze information and make logical conclusions.
  • Must have proven mathematical skills.
  • Overall computer literacy skills.
  • 10-key by touch and type 45 wpm.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state labor and tax laws.
  • Must demonstrate integrity and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, management and department head staff.
  • Must be customer service oriented and able to adjust to change.
  • Experience working with Lawson (Infor) is preferred.
  • Experience working with Kronos Workforce Central is preferred.
Required
Experience:
  • A minimum of 2-4 years' experience in the payroll field
  • High School Diploma
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
