JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Technology team at CNA is seeking an IT Business Analyst as an individual contributor, representing a high level of technical knowledge, who works with business area, technology representatives and others in support of a program or project.

Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on user needs and an understanding of the business system requirements. Leads project teams or work groups and may be the primary project contact for functional area. Accountable for assignments or projects that are high in priority, visibility and/or complexity.

The ideal IT Business Analysis, Specialist candidate will have at least three years of commercial insurance experience working as a Business Analyst, proficient in gathering documentation and business requirements from stakeholders, along with working experience in an agile environment.

Although Guidewire experience is not required, it is highly preferred specifically the within the Claims Center product.
This is a hybrid position to be located in Chicago, IL.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to plans and conduct working sessions where business requirements are elicited and reviewed.
  • Prepares charter, requirements, and solutions documents and supporting documentation (e.g., use cases, process flows, business rules, user interface mock-ups, etc) for the concept and definition phases of the project.
  • Recommends the most viable technology solutions to management for approval.
  • Supports system test planning to ensure that test conditions, scripts, validation criteria, and expected results will successfully test the business and non-functional requirements.
  • Participates in design reviews to ensure that detailed designs meet the needs of business and non-functional requirements.
  • Manages requirements process using the appropriate requirement management tools (e.g. Caliber RM).
  • Assures that necessary research is performed in order to fully understand the business issues, develop possible solutions and to support development of innovative, cost effective solutions.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Broad understanding of the insurance industry, its products, practices and operations.
  • Broad knowledge of the system development life cycle, and technology alternatives; understanding of interface design and user centered work methods.
  • Strong knowledge of client area's business and systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills and ability to convey business requirements and technical needs in clear, concise, and effective manner.
  • Solid client and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with clients and IT staff.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other business related software systems.
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically a minimum of four years' experience in business analysis, within the commercial insurance industry with prior experience identifying and documenting business requirements.
