The Department of Radiation Medicine at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC is accepting applications for an ABR certified or eligible Radiation Physicist to support physics services in the department. Academic appointment at Georgetown University School of Medicine at the Instructor, Assistant, Associate or Professor level is available depending on qualification with potential leadership roles. Candidates with strong clinical, research and teaching experience are invited to apply.

The Department of Radiation Medicine has always been at the forefront of technology innovation and implementation. It implemented Cyberknife technology at the beginning of 2000 right after FDA's approval of Cyberknife for clinical use. It added another Cyberknife in 2007 to become one of the busiest Cyberknife operations in the world. In 2017, it installed the first Mevion S250i pencil beam scanning proton system to become the first proton treatment provider in the greater Washington DC area. In 2020, it implemented a ZAP-X radiosurgical system to become the 2nd Zap-X user in the country. In 2022, it introduced a dedicated Mobetron system to provide post operative radiation treatment of pancreatic cancer.

In addition to the above highlighted technologies, the department operates two Varian linacs and a HDR unit. One of the two linacs is currently being replaced with a newest model of Truebeam with surface guidance and will become operational at the end of 2024. Other systems and clinical software include Align RT for proton, SDX for breathing control, Radformation, MIM, and RIT. QA devices include that by PTW, IBA, SunNuclear and Standard Imaging.

The Physis Division of Radiation Medicine has been actively engaged in clinical and translational research in the areas of AI applications in treatment planning, radiobiology of flash radiation, SRS physis/dosimetry and outcome studies with different radiosurgical platforms. The department offers both medical and physics residency programs with close collaboration between the residents and staff physicists and attendings.

The successful candidate will possess strong clinical skills in the areas of linacs, proton and Cyberknife RT with established track record of clinical and translational research. Skills in large language model, machine learning and programing ability using Python and other languages will be particularly valuable. Career development and advancement opportunities for early/mid-career faulty physicists will be provided.
