Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional position requiring a team approach in growing a dental clinic program in St Lucie County. Providing diagnoses, treatments, clinic coordination including conducting dental examinations, evaluations, performing periodontal, preventive, restorative, pedodontics, and oral surgical therapies as well as dental screenings; and performs record review and prepares reports as needed. Works under the direction of the Dental Director and assist to ensure that the program meets all target regarding access, customer service, quality of care and financial sustainability. This position may provide services to our HIV dental program as needed. The employee will also provide children services at other sites in the county as needed.

Performs the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Conducts oral examinations and evaluations with necessary intraoral x-rays and photograph.
  • Reviews patients' medical history.
  • Treats infections, oral diseases, injuries, and malformations of the mouth, teeth, and oral cavity.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to dental specialists and medical providers.
  • Provides restorative, preventative, extractions, and other related oral procedures.
  • Provides work supervision of Dentals Assistants and Dental Hygienists in accordance with Florida laws and rules.
  • Treats post-operative complications and emergency treatment when indicated.
  • Provide treatment to pediatric patients.
  • Practices infection control per Florida laws and rules, OSHA, and CDC guidelines.
  • Completes time sheet, EARS and mandatory training in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Attends and participates in dental health staff meeting and other meetings as required.
  • Schedules time off in advance and collaborates with supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Maintains complete records of all dental services.
  • Ensures that equipment and instruments are maintained following infection control guidelines.
  • Ensures security guidelines comply.
  • Assists supervisor in coordination, planning and monitoring of dental operations as assigned.
  • This position may require traveling to other sites in the County or required to work on different days to ensure appropriate coverage for the clinic services.
  • Performs other related work/duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the documentation, safety and practice standards governing the practice of dentistry in DOH.
  • Skill in performing dental procedures up to the standard of care.
  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and techniques of dentistry.
  • Ability to relate to diverse clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Skill in computer software application.

The incumbent will work 32 hours with potential to work up to 40 hours a week.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Dentist Licensure in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes including DEA Certification
  • Valid Driver's License, a valid Florida Driver's License is required within 30 days of employment.
  • Experience working in a Dental setting with children and adults.
  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

Preferred:

  • One year or more experience providing dental treatment to children.
  • Experience supervising staff
