Job Overview
Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is searching for a Senior Data Engineer (Database Development ,BigQuery) to join our Data Lake team. You will work closely with the Principal Data Architect to build, model, and maintain data solutions to optimize our data architecture, ensuring efficient handling and accessibility of large-scale datasets.
What You'll Do

  • Code BigQuery procedures, functions, and other database objects by applying expert knowledge in BigQuery SQL and ANSI SQL
  • Implement scalable and efficient data models within our data lake, with a focus on BigQuery
  • Manage and optimize data storage, partitioning, and clustering strategies to ensure high performance and reliability of our data infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement features and enhancements in BigQuery, levering your expertise in SQL and cloud-based data warehousing technologies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that align with business objectives. Develop documentation for the team to support design discussions
  • Ensure data integrity and quality by implementing robust data validation and error-handling mechanisms. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of data management, from ingestion to ETL process, and final reporting layers. Identify and implement improvements to increase productivity on the team
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data engineering and big data technologies

What You'll Need to Succeed
We're looking for someone who:

  • Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems office.

Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • 8+ years focused on database development, including modeling, building, and maintaining data solutions
  • Experience with BigQuery and cloud-based data warehousing solutions
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and big data architectures
  • Experience in managing and optimizing BigQuery and other Google Cloud Platform data services
  • Knowledge of Agile frameworks, ideally Scrum, and tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Ability to communicate in a team-oriented environment to clarify requirements and deliver solutions within committed timelines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented mindset
  • Bachelor-level degree in Computer Science, MIS, or CIS, or equivalent experience
