Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Transplant Physician Assistant to join our prestigious transplant program at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Transplant Physician Assistant will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to transplant patients throughout their journey, from evaluation to post-operative management. This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside world-renowned transplant surgeons, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams in a state-of-the-art facility.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct comprehensive pre-transplant evaluations, including medical history review, physical examinations, and diagnostic assessments, to determine transplant candidacy.
  2. Assist in the coordination of transplant evaluations, including scheduling tests, consultations, and procedures, to ensure timely completion of pre-transplant workup.
  3. Collaborate with transplant surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans for transplant candidates and recipients.
  4. Provide patient education and counseling regarding transplant procedures, risks, benefits, and post-operative care, ensuring informed decision-making and adherence to treatment plans.
  5. Assist in the operating room during transplant surgeries, including organ retrieval and transplantation, as part of the surgical team.
  6. Monitor and manage post-transplant care, including medication management, wound care, and follow-up appointments, to optimize patient outcomes and prevent complications.
  7. Coordinate with primary care providers and specialists to ensure continuity of care for transplant patients, including management of comorbidities and long-term follow-up.
  8. Participate in transplant program development, quality improvement initiatives, and research projects to advance clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.
  9. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic health records, in compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies.
  10. Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development through participation in continuing education, training programs, and professional organizations related to transplant medicine.

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland.
  2. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  3. Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant, preferably in a surgical or transplant setting.
  4. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills with the ability to manage complex medical conditions and surgical procedures.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse healthcare teams and engage with patients and families.
  6. Knowledge of transplant medicine, including pre-transplant evaluation, surgical techniques, immunosuppressive therapies, and post-transplant care protocols.
  7. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and resilience in the face of challenges.
  8. Commitment to patient-centered care, with a focus on compassion, empathy, and respect for patients' rights and dignity.
  9. Willingness to participate in flexible scheduling, including on-call responsibilities and weekend/holiday coverage as needed.
