Assistant Clinical Investigators Transition Program in Clinical Research

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the largest institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), conducts and supports a global program of research to better understand treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. The NIAID Transition Program in Clinical Research provides an exceptional opportunity for physicians to gain clinical and translational research experience within the NIAID Division of Intramural Research (DIR). The program aims to increase the pool of well-trained clinical investigators who are competitive for clinical tenure-track positions.

Up to three candidates per year will be selected for three- to five-year appointments as assistant clinical investigators within DIR. Participants will receive independent resources and staff and will be mentored by an NIAID senior investigator.

Applicants should identify a DIR lab chief who will agree to host their research. Information about DIR labs and contact information for lab chiefs is available on the DIR website. Applications will be evaluated by a search committee composed of DIR principal investigators with clinical and basic research interests. Competitive candidates will be invited to present their research accomplishments and plans to the search committee.
