Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago's North Shore, is seeking an exemplary Music teacher beginning the school year. We value candidates who are passionate about progressive models of learning, have a love of early childhood, and are innovative and knowledgeable about progressive teaching. We place a high value on community and seek candidates who have excellent interpersonal skills and who will work well with students, colleagues, and parents. As importantly, we seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to developing cultural competence literacy. A full time position includes teaching, attendance at all professional development meetings, and additional responsibilities throughout the year that require attendance at evening and weekend events.

Founded in 1918, Baker Demonstration School is an independent day school committed to providing an exemplary Preschool, Elementary and Middle School progressive education to our 200 students. Our students come from Chicago, Evanston, Wilmette and other North Shore communities.     Requirements

    • Experience teaching music, both vocal and instrumental
    • Four year degree in Music Education or related field
    • Knowledge and experience with progressive education philosophy and a constructivist pedagogical approach
    • Ability to create and manifest differentiated, innovative curricula
    • Expertise in building active, collaborative classroom programs which encourage problem solving, critical thinking skills, and develop a sense of classroom community and trust
    • Capacity to address the developmental needs of academically motivated elementary school students
    • Passion and skill to contribute positively to an educational environment that supports a lifelong love of learning, self-esteem, and respect for the community and the world in which we live
    • Utilize innovative technology to support student instruction
    • Commitment to engaging in community conversations about equity and inclusivity
