Ability to work with students with various academic needs. Desire to work with middle school teachers and students. Prefer experience in Middle School Math instruction.

Job Goals: The goal of the Math Interventionist is to assist students who have been identified as at-risk with math and provide a continuum of support. The interventionist develops material and lesson plans, conducts classroom instruction and evaluates and assesses student performance. The interventionist meets with parents, interprets student progress, and informs parents/guardians about student strengths, weaknesses, and progress. The interventionist collaborates with identified teachers who share the at-risk students served and develops a transition plan between the intervention classroom and the regular classroom.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide direct instruction to students identified as eligible for math services in individual and/or small group settings. Uses identified needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of the math content standards. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students. Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities. Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the interests of the students. Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist teachers. Monitor student progress on a regular basis towards achieving instructional objectives and goals on the Intervention Plans or IEPs. Communicate effectively with teachers and parents. Be familiar with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Terms of Employment: 188 days contract

Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
