Department/School Introduction

The School of Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) is an exciting and entrepreneurial school within the College which offers a wide variety of non-credit classes, courses, seminars, and training sessions for the community. These offerings are focused on revitalizing careers, upgrading skills and credentials, growing businesses, and pursuing pastimes and passions. Additionally, the HCCC Center for Business & Industry (CBI) is the area leader in developing and delivering educational classes and programs for Hudson County's businesses, organizations, and individuals. Position Summary/Job Description

Reporting directly to the Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, the part-time Student Success Coach works collaboratively with the Coordinator, Water Workforce Program partners, academic, workforce and student services departments, students, and faculty to successfully implement the training program.

Salary Grade: 109

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understand business sectors in Hudson County and employer needs; able to translate into educational services for water workforce students.
  • Ensure that training activities are occurring for the participants as outlined in the training proposal.
  • Assist in monitoring/managing the College's agreement with New Jersey Future.
  • Develop information for recruitment sessions.
  • Manage the enrollment process for academic and workforce programs.
  • Become a subject matter expert on College programs, products, processes and operations, and remain up-to-date on industry programs in the water sector.
  • Connect students with academic and non-academic services.
  • Maintain records of program participants and track participant progress.
  • Ensure compliance with all program requirements.
  • Prepare reports as required.
  • Participate in all aspects of evaluation.
  • Monitor the program budget.
  • Perform other related duties as delegated or assigned by the Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum associate degree or three years of experience in coordinating workforce training or other student activities.
  • Candidate must demonstrate outstanding organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • This position is located in Jersey City, NJ and may require some travel throughout the County.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with a culturally diverse population and to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Proficiency with various computer software programs including Microsoft Office suite including Excel, and experience with Ellucian (formerly Datatel) Colleague or similar higher education platform preferred.

To date, the College's Foundation has raised over $3.5 million for student scholarships, and HCCC ranks first in the state of New Jersey for its award of Community College Opportunity Grant funds. About half of its more than 12,000 credit students identify as Hispanic, and more than 33% of all students were born outside of the U.S. In 2021, HCCC had two students selected from a national applicant pool to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

Hudson County Community College has three campuses. The largest campus is located at the heart of Jersey City's Journal Square, which is approximately 20 minutes from New York City. The College has a North Hudson Campus, located in Union City, New Jersey and an additional location at the Hudson County Schools of Technology in Secaucus, New Jersey. The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.

The College boasts several signature programs, including a nationally recognized Culinary Arts Institute and School of Nursing and Health Professions. The College's Culinary Arts Institute is one of only three programs in the New York Metropolitan region to hold accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation. The Culinary Arts Institute features state-of-the-art facilities and a hands-on program that prepares students for a range of careers in the hospitality industry. The Nursing Program includes a theoretical base of general education and science courses together with a range of nursing theory and practical courses designed to prepare graduates to be eligible for the New Jersey State Licensure Examination for Registered Professional Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
