ResponsibilitiesPurchases and replenishes food for preparation through proper buying procedures.Monitors and acts upon open purchase order reports accurately and promptly.Controls spoilage and shrinkage, meets turnover goals, and takes part in inventory processes.Completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and cleaning worksheets as needed.Assists with counter service and cooking as scheduled or required.Communicates with kitchen manager, chef, and team leader regarding ordering needs and concerns.Maintains a positive relationship with suppliers.Collaborates with team leaders to determine recipe costs.Manages customer special order process.Supports leadership in carrying out inventory procedures.Ensures financial profitability by achieving or exceeding purchasing and sales targets.Shows up to work station on time, well-groomed, properly dressed, and prepared to work; works all assigned shifts, and attends mandatory trainings and meetings.Delivers outstanding customer service, addresses customer needs promptly and effectively, and demonstrates suggestive selling techniques; answers phone calls and pages in a prompt and courteous manner.Maximizes sales potential through effective preparation, storage, rotation, stocking, and presentation of products.Follows established procedures, including those for weights and measures, health and sanitation, and workplace safety practices.Maintains a clean and hygienic work and shopping environment; keeps equipment up to Whole Foods Market cleanliness and safety standards.Performs opening, mid, and closing tasks as assigned; ensures accuracy of signage and pricing.Reports safety hazards and violations immediately.Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesThorough product knowledge, including production, distribution, seasonal availability, advancements, and trends.Capability to create and negotiate price bids.Interest in learning about products, nutritional information, and related subjects.Familiarity with and application of all expectations for prepared foods merchandising.Comprehensive understanding of Whole Foods Market's margin program and profitability.Ability to educate team members on product details and exhibit enthusiasm.Solid foundational math skills.Proficiency in using computer programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems.Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate as part of a team.Ability to convey information clearly and respectfully to colleagues, customers, and suppliers.Proficiency in meeting customer service standards in interactions with customers, suppliers, and team members.Ability to follow instructions and procedures; effective time management and organizational abilities.Passion for natural foods and alignment with Whole Foods Market's mission.Strong work ethic and capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.Understanding of and adherence to Whole Foods Market's quality objectives.Desired Work Experiences1+ years of experience in buying/merchandising.Physical Requirements / Working ConditionsMust be able to lift up to 50 pounds.Standing and walking for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday.Hand coordination: grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.Work involves bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning substances.Work in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.Flexibility to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.Proficiency in using tools and equipment, such as knives, box cutters, and heavy machinery.Potential requirement to use ladders.Note: This summary provides an overview of key responsibilities for the role and is not exhaustive.
