Position Summary:
The University of Dayton School of Engineering is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our best-in-class community deeply committed to their mentorship and transition to a successful tenure-track faculty career.

The University of Dayton School of Engineering invites applications for one postdoc-to-tenure track fellow, who has a civil engineering background with research and teaching interests and experience in the area of intelligent infrastructure systems, sensors and smart and connected systems, and/or data analytics. These above-mentioned engineering research specialties are at the nexus of the School of Engineering's innovative research for the common good and several area collaborators with advanced research capabilities. This post-doc-to-tenure-track fellow opportunity is a two-year postdoctoral research position that may transition to a tenure-track faculty position at the end of the second year per relevant policies of the hiring unit and the University of Dayton, upon demonstrated success in securing externally sponsored research; high-impact mentorship of undergraduate and graduate researchers; and development of effective, innovative teaching practices. This position is renewable annually and begins on August 16, 2024.

Opportunities for collaboration are diverse, with examples including the School of Engineering's fifteen labs and centers - Intelligent Infrastructure Systems Center, Design of Innovative Machines Lab, EMPWR Biomechanics Lab, Flight Simulator Lab, Integrated Microsystems Lab, Intelligent Optics Lab, Intelligent Signal Systems Lab, Low-Speed Wind Tunnel, Nano-Fab Lab, Robotics Lab, Signal and Image Processing Lab, Transportation Lab, Applied AI Lab for Infrastructure System, Greg and Annie Stevens Intelligent Infrastructure Engineering Lab, Ethos Center, Visioneering Center, Innovation Center, and the Ethos R&D program. The university's Hanley Sustainability Institute and the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) offer additional opportunities for collaboration. The Dayton area offers unique opportunities for engineering faculty to work with researchers at the Air Force Research Laboratory located at Wright-Patterson AFB, the Environmental Protection Agency's Breidenbach Environmental Research Center, and regional academic institutions such as The Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati.

The University's 382-acre campus is located at the southern edge of Dayton, Ohio. Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. at the time of hire in civil engineering or a related field.
Record of conducting research in topics related to digital twin, intelligent infrastructure, remote sensing, human-data interaction, data analytics, machine learning, or mixed reality.
Articulated potential for teaching to contribute to undergraduate and graduate civil engineering-related curriculum
Articulated potential for teaching excellence, particularly employing active, experiential, and inclusive pedagogies.
Effective written communication skills.
Articulated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Potential to establish a sustained externally-funded research program aligned with ongoing efforts at the University of Dayton and the greater Dayton region.
Research and/or industry experience in digital twin, intelligent infrastructure, remote sensing, human-data interaction, data analytics, machine learning, and/or mixed reality.
Potential to mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers using high-impact practices
Potential to teach courses in civil engineering-related topics such as sensing techniques, and/or data analytics.
Successful experience in engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds and supporting the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
PE licensure or the ability to earn PE licensure.
Effective interpersonal communication skills
