Overview :
Friends School Haverford seeks a passionate early childhood teacher who embraces the Quaker principles of integrity, stewardship, and community. This role is ideal for an educator excited about guiding children through a learning process that adapts to their interests and encourages hands-on projects.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Culture: Establish a supportive environment that nurtures social, emotional, and academic development, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect where every child feels valued and their emotional and intellectual growth is nurtured.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Work collaboratively with families, faculty, and staff, integrating Quaker principles to enhance the educational experience for all students. Partner with other teachers and specialists to implement and refine best educational practices, ensuring a holistic, values-driven approach to learning that responds to the children's growing interests and needs.
  • Teaching: Develop curricula that evolve based on children's interests and questions, allowing them to explore topics that capture their interest. Help children bring their ideas to life through authentic projects that make learning tangible and exciting.
  • Curriculum Development: Plan and execute a creative, dynamic classroom program that adapts to young learners' emerging interests and inquiries and engages them in meaningful inquiry and exploration rooted in Quaker values of peace, equity, stewardship, and community.

    Full-time teachers participate fully in school life, including covering lunch and recess, planning and attending field trips, participating in admissions-related events, writing reports, and other related activities. All teachers are members of a faculty committee and engage in at least one other activity/job that benefits the school community, as determined by the Head of School.

    • BA or BS in Education or a related field; additional qualifications in Early Childhood Education are a plus;
    • Minimum of three years' experience teaching young children;
    • A commitment to fairness, equity, and inclusion in education;
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with children and adults alike;
    • A creative thinker who enjoys developing new ways to engage and inspire children;
    • Possess strong organizational skills and resourcefulness;
    • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to social justice and equity;
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;
    • A broad repertoire of strategies to teach children with diverse learning styles;
    • Excitement about working closely and collaboratively with other educators;
