POSITION SUMMARY: Deliver high-quality instruction, emphasizing alignment with the local workforce needs in the field of Mechanical Design and Engineering. Proficiently teach mechanical drafting using industry-standard software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CREO, covering diverse topics such as additive manufacturing, prototyping, reverse engineering, and mechanical design theory drafting skills development will empower students for success, offering hands-on experiences in constructing and revising engineering drawings. Stay at the forefront of industry trends and integrate cutting-edge practices into the curriculum, ensuring students are well-prepared for the workforce. Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing. Fostering a collaborative learning environment that prepares students for real-world teamwork scenarios.

Educate students with core knowledge and current developments in the discipline. Provide regular curriculum and course improvement with continually updated teaching methods. Participate in subject or program leadership teams and college-wide committees. Work effectively in a team-based environment. Seek opportunities for continuous professional development.

Responsible for placing learning first and providing educational experiences for learners in accordance with the mission of the college inclusive of facilitating learning, assessing student performance, as well as instruction and outcomes, developing and maintaining current/relevant course materials and curriculum, working with high school dual credit teachers, and communicating with the community, other schools, the college, the division, and team members. Teaching/training in business and industry may be assigned.

Provide high quality customer service throughout all interactions. This includes but is not limited to: work effectively and positively with people from all backgrounds; help the customer find solutions; anticipate needs, and follow-up with the customer. Provide friendly, respectful, personalized experiences throughout every interaction.

This is a year-round position serving, on average, 40 hours per week. During assigned instructional terms, or semesters, 60% of the week is designated for students contact time, or teaching, and 40% for professional expectations, as outlined below.

  • Faculty in this role are required to align industry specific equipment such as 3D printers, and software to the courses in the program.
  • Faculty remain current in industry software and programs including AutoCAD, SolidWorks and CREO.
  • Instruct and demonstrate mechanical design practices to students.
  • Evaluate mastery of student performance by employing authentic assessments.
  • Assist with equipment and material procurement process.
  • Seek opportunities to implement programming and software updates, including continued education.
  • Submit work orders to facilities for lab and equipment repairs.
  • Administer certifications to students.
  • Work effectively with outside vendors.
  • Develop relationships with companies in Lakeshore's district and beyond.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school instructors to establish dual credit opportunities as well as recruitment activities.
  • Promote mechanical design careers and manufacturing within the college, at high schools, events, conferences, and in the manufacturing community.
  • Ensure the safety of students in potentially hazardous work environments through safe working practices and proper use of equipment.
  • Participate in college outreach activities, both on and off campus.
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Create an inclusive, effective learning environment that addresses barriers and provides reasonable accommodations.
  • Execute any other duties related to the program and student success.
Instruction/Manage the Learning Environment
Curriculum: Integrate learning theories and models into curriculum design. Update curriculum appropriately in curriculum design repository system and the college learning management system according to the college schedule and guidelines.
Delivery: Facilitate learning, utilizing a variety of delivery modes and learning theories. Encourage engagement of students while maintaining a safe, inclusive, and functioning environment.
Assessment: Evaluate student learning based on course competencies and program outcomes, employing formative and summative assessments. Provide constructive and timely feedback Retain records through the college information system according to program requirements.
Support Dual Credit and Credit for Prior Learning activities.
There may be operational needs requiring substitutions of alternative duties and/or the creation of flexible delivery (e.g., CBE, iFlex) in courses.

Enhance Student Success
Modify teaching and learning based upon feedback and assessment results to improve student success.
Create an inclusive and equitable learning environment designed to address student needs and partner with accommodation or other support services to provide reasonable accommodations, when appropriate.
Advise students in ways that foster the development of the whole student, and encourages persistence and timely completion of a course, certificate, diploma, or degree.
Assess the effectiveness of a course and/or program and take necessary steps to enhance outcomes.

Pursue Professional Development
Participate in initial and ongoing required professional development. This includes, but is not limited to, college-wide meetings, on-site professional development days, Wisconsin Technical College System Faculty Quality Assurance System FQAS courses, etc.
Develop and update annual goals as documented in the employee performance review.
Maintain required industry certifications and/or licensures.

Participate in Planning or College Advancement
Participate in division, department, and program meetings to improve program health.
Provide input into hiring, mentoring, and succession planning.
Participate in college advancement initiatives, including college-wide teams, advisory committees, and/or statewide teams.
Contribute to the design, implementation, and reporting of grants.
Support the College accreditation process.
Participate in program planning, development, and modification.

Outreach
Participate in outreach, recruitment, and community events as determined by college leadership.
Collaborate with Workforce Solutions on scoping business and industry needs.

Other
Activities required to maintain program accreditation unless part of coordinator duties.
Grant writing and reporting activities may be required.
Activities required to maintain competency, partnerships, and mutual services within external/offsite location.
Oversee and coordinate operations at external sites and satellite locations that maintain campus standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and two years (4,000 hours) of recent relevant occupational experience in the field OR associate's degree in a related discipline and three years (6000 hours) of recent occupational experience in the field OR technical diploma in related discipline and four years (8000 hours) of recent occupational experience in the field OR a Journey worker Card in a related discipline and two years' (4000 hours) of recent relevant occupational experience in the field OR five years hours) of recent occupational experience. If no Bachelor's degree, successful candidate will be required to complete within five years of employment. Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks and CREO.
  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing beneficial.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
Be familiar with basic hardware; use a laptop, printer, and scanning techniques equipment.
Securely access college network systems using appropriate multi-factor authentication, navigate through Windows; and appropriate navigation through the internet.
Use voicemail, email, and calendaring programs.
Understand database concepts and use queries; create a basic spreadsheet; create simple charts and graphs; develop materials using presentation software; manage and create files.
Use video conferencing.
Utilize PeopleSoft appropriately.
Use electronic timesheet.
Use Blackboard and associated tools.
Utilize classroom technologies necessary for instruction (e.g., Interactive Whiteboard, SmartBoard, Projectors, Document Camera, and Lecture Capture equipment).
Manage laptop carts.
Use Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS) for curriculum development and access to course/syllabi information.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Possess excellent classroom delivery skills, which encourages success and participation on the part of students.
Must be innovative and able to collaborate with other staff in developing curriculum for classroom instruction.
Must be well motivated and have a strong interest in contributing to the success of the College.
Positive human relations and effective written and oral communication skills essential.
Exemplify college values in all staff and student interactions as well as services delivered.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and relate successfully with staff, students, and people of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
Fluent, bilingual individual is beneficial

Per subject area taught, instructors are required to possess the appropriate credential.
