Under general supervision, performs cashiering and related accounting clerical tasks of moderate difficulty in the University's Student Account Office.

Typical Duties/Job Duties Receives money from students and departmental personnel; verifies amounts received and prepares cash receipts. Prepares daily cash report; balances cash receipts with daily cash report; prepares bank deposit; sorts back-up documents for deposits and collates them with cash reports. Accesses on-line fiscal records system and enters cash receipt data into proper general ledger accounts; receipts funds received via electronic funds transfer ( EFT ). Records and Processes manual monthly payments for collection department. Maintains records of checks returned with insufficient funds; mails returned check notices to payers; forwards returned items to County Attorney or District Attorney for prosecution due to nonpayment. Maintains logs of receipts and receipt books checked out to various departments; records receipts numbers used by departments. Responsible for maintaining bank statement retention records. Responsible for maintaining/balancing the permanent petty cash in vault; assigns temporary petty cash to various departments; orders money and change from servicing bank; performs random audits during fiscal year for those departments who have been assigned permanent petty cash. Distributes payroll and residual refund checks to students, faculty and staff.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of collection practices and procedures; knowledge of basic accounting processes and procedures; knowledge of Microsoft Office suites.
  • Communicates in a professional and service-oriented manner with students, family, faculty, staff and others.
  • Has the ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment; ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner; ability to perform mathematical calculations and accounting entries in an accurate manner.
  • Prepares invoices to companies for special events, camps, meetings, and other activities held on campus. Also prepares invoices to bill third parties, such as Veteran Affairs and Department of Assistive Services for student tuition, fees, and housing expenses. Follows up on all invoices unpaid or partially paid.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, or successful completion of a GED certificate required.
  • At least two years progressively responsible cash handling, bookkeeping, or accounting experience is required; minimum of one year experience in a customer service environment.
