Summary

This position is located at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, West Virginia.

Duties

The incumbent operates a tract-mounted excavator, a front-end loader, backhoes and 124 HP diesel engines and other miscellaneous industrial tractors with attachments.

Operator must be skilled in the safe economical and efficient use of specialized equipment such as buckets, blades and other attachments to accomplish interment and renovation activities.

The incumbent has the responsibility of acting work leader.

The incumbent is responsible for performing task to control and eliminate damage as well as wear and tear to equipment.

Performs a variety of tasks relative to interment. Occasionally operates 5 ton dump trucks at 30,000 GVWR and below, forklifts and other equipment.

May be required to layout gravesites using cemetery layout maps and perform other related duties as assigned in keeping with the overall operation of the cemetery.

Performs some equipment and facilities maintenance. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Work schedule:
May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends.

Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time.

Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday.

All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.
