What You'll Do
Dakota County Libraries are currently seeking a candidate to fill the Library Associate position which supports information services and reading suggestions to assist library customers. This position assists the public in the use of physical and digital resources; supports and presents library programs including early literacy and technology programs, and participates in community outreach. This position also assists in the management and maintenance of library collections.

Our current opening is at the Wescott Library in Eagan and is a .50 FTE (20 hours per week) position.

The schedule for this position is as follows:Mondays 3:10pm-8:10pmWednesdays 8:30am-5:00pmThursdays 11:40am-8:10pmEvery 3rd Saturday (off Thursday for Saturday) 8:40am-5:10pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required, with classes or major in Library and Information Sciences preferred AND two years' experience in a public library or similar setting preferred.
OR
* An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working with diverse populations and customers with limited English proficiency
* Bilingual skills are desirable
* Experience troubleshooting technology and internet issues including on mobile devices
* Experience working with 3D printers and other Maker technologies desirable


Duties & Responsibilities

1. Information and Public Services- Matches customers' needs with information, resources and technology, in a meaningful and professional manner in the library, virtual setting or in the community. Demonstrates working knowledge of library catalog and circulation systems, library hardware and software applications.
2. Technology Assistance- Provides technology support to customers using library computers, printers, copier and fax, and assists with troubleshooting issues with other devices, laptops and phones.
3. Collection- Assists in the management of library collections.
4. Programming and Outreach- Collaborates with librarians to deliver programs that meet the needs and interests of a diverse community.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment
  • Knowledge of library practices, procedures, reference services and research methods.
  • Knowledge of library-related resources and technologies, including databases, software applications, and downloadable formats and apps.
  • Ability to implement programs and events, including those that align with Library equity, diversity, inclusion, and access goals
  • Ability to maintain assigned collection areas.
  • Ability to provide welcoming and effective customer service.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of library circulation and catalog software.
  • Ability to perform detailed work within established timelines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the general public, colleagues and teams.
Work Environment
Work is performed within a County building. Occasional travel to other library facilities may be required. This position requires walking, reaching, and bending on a frequent basis. Lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Pushing book carts, exerting force up to 50 pounds, intermittently. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation due to high concentration of computer work.
