      Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing basic principles and concepts of computer science; 2) Applying standard data base management systems, general purpose language, and mini or mainframe computer sufficient to assist in analyzing computer networks; 3) Providing organization and it mission sufficient to develop an understanding of the unique problems associated with developing automated techniques in the environment; and 4) Applying skills to absorb technical information and apply it to assigned project objectives.       Education

      Basic Education Requirements for 1550 Computer Science Series:
      You must possess a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a bachelor's degree or higher with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

      Evaluation of Education:
      Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.

      Applicants may substitute education for experience in the following situations:

      FOR THE GS-07:
      One full academic year of graduate education, law school
      OR
      Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) through the following method (only one). No more than 10% of academic credit can be based on pass/fail or similar non-traditional grading systems.
      2.95 GPA overall or higher or in last 2 years (= or less than 10% Pass/Fail)
      3.45 GPA or higher in major or in last 2 years in major (= or less than 10% Pass/Fail)
      Upper 1/3 ranking in graduating class (You must submit proof with your application)
      National Scholastic Honor Society. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. (You must submit proof with your application)

      FOR THE GS-09:
      Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree
      OR
      Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree
      OR
      Possession of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to this position being filled.

      A combination of specialized experience at the GS-07 level and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
