Role Overview: St. Catherine's School is on the lookout for a dedicated and innovative full-time Middle School Counselor who is enthusiastic about supporting middle school girls and collaborating with faculty members. As a vital part of the Middle School team, the counselor will actively engage with both students and faculty, contributing to the Middle School program that aims to bring positive outcomes for the girls. Responsibilities include offering social and emotional support through individual sessions, conducting small group counseling, delivering trimester courses on personal growth, and advocating for the Health and Wellness Team's initiatives. The Counselor will also play a crucial role within the administrative team, assisting in organizing community events and fostering positive relationships with parents and colleagues.

Reporting to: Head of Middle School

Employment Type: Full-time, salaried, exempt, regular position for 9 months

Work Hours: Standard work week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide social and emotional support to Middle School students through individual counseling and group sessions
  • Offer guidance and assistance to families of Middle School students
  • Collaborate with faculty to enhance student growth, well-being, and sense of belonging
  • Implement and uphold the School's initiatives promoting access, equity, and inclusivity
  • Develop programs related to health, wellness, parenting, and appropriate resources for the school community
  • Teach trimester courses on Personal Growth for 5th and 6th-grade students
  • Engage in Middle School Grade Level and Student Care Teams, collaborating with fellow faculty members
  • Participate in School life committees as required
  • Consult with external resources and therapists as needed

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in school counseling, psychology, or social work (e.g., M.Ed., M.A., M.S., M.S.W.) as a minimum requirement
  • Virginia licensure or eligibility for licensure (L.C.P., L.S.C., L.P.C., L.S.W.) is preferred
  • Experience in counseling middle-school-aged girls
  • Proven ability to form strong relationships with students, families, and peers
  • Team player with a focus on student support
  • Knowledge of current trends in student health and wellness
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, for interactions with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Familiarity with and successful implementation of programs centered on student well-being
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication and support within the school community
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
