JOB SUMMARY

Eastside Catholic is seeking a High School Science Teacher for the school year with the flexibility and willingness to teach all levels of the Science Department curriculum with a specialized focus in chemistry and/or biology.

The ideal candidate is passionate about science education, can inspire young learners, is able to work collaboratively and has a desire to contribute to a faith-based educational
community.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish clear objectives for assigned lessons, labs, learning targets and projects and
communicate those objectives to students, following department curriculum

  • Collaborate with the Science Department to align curriculum while conveying new ideas and best practices
  • Plan and teach five chemistry and/or biology sections covering all levels, from on-level and honors through AP, using the most up-to-date pedagogical and laboratory techniques, following NGSS standards
  • Develop the curriculum materials, syllabus, outlines and assessments in alignment with the department
  • Oversee and assess the development and progress of each student
  • Participate in all faculty, department and committee meetings as required
  • Serve as a Mentor teacher to a group of 15-18 students
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Clear understanding of and experience delivering AP, honors and on-level chemistry and/or biology curriculum
  • Experience with differentiated instruction to serve all students
  • Ability to use classroom technology
  • Effectively create positive relationships with students and their families
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative and organizational skills
  • A commitment to practices that promote equity, inclusion and belonging

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree with an academic emphasis in chemistry and/or biology
  • Recent experience teaching at the high school level in chemistry and/or biology
  • A teaching certificate is preferred
  • Graduate degree in either a science-related field or education is preferre
