Provides a full range of diagnostic audiological and vestibular services to patients, including neonates, with hearing disorders or balance disturbances. Evaluate, select, and fits patients with assistive listening devices, hearing aids, and amplification systems. Supervises clinical audiology staff. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures in consultation with the administrative director and physicians.
Education
  • Master's degree in Audiology required or
  • AuD is required
Experience
  • 5-7 years Progressively more responsible job related experience required
Licenses and Certifications
  • License as an Audiologist in the District of Columbia within 90 Days required and
  • Certification by the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association is required

Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Develops and modifies audiology policies, procedures, and operating protocols to ensure quality performance in conjunction with the Administrative Director. Collects and maintains department-related statistical reports related to audiology.Confers and provides a full range of diagnostic audiology and vestibular evaluations on in- and out-patients on-site and at designated off-site locations including infant hearing screening on newborns. Uses objective test measures in the ICU and participates in audiology monitoring in the OR as assigned.Evaluates patient needs for hearing aid amplification. Selects, fits, and dispenses hearing devices. Teaches the use and care of hearing aids. Conducts follow-up phone calls and schedules visits for adjustments and to address any problems.Counsels patients regarding test results and makes appropriate recommendations. Provides family counseling on aspects of hearing and balance disorders. Provides in-services to nursing staff and internal medicine residents/ENT residents on the role of the audiologist. Serves as resource/representative for audiologists in the hospital.Completes progress notes and consultation summaries in medical records. Provides reports to referral sources. Provides appropriate speech-language and other referrals as required.Provides internal hearing aid repairs where possible. Prepares and processes other repairs to be completed by the appropriate manufacturer.Completes and ensures accuracy of all required documentation for patient billing.Interviews/selects audiology staff in conjunction with the Administrative Director. Serves as audiology staff resource by providing on-site guidance and coordination of daily activities in audiology.Supervises audiology staff. Establishes work schedules, makes daily assignments, delegates, and assigns duties/responsibilities. Interviews, hires, and evaluates performance; promotes, and disciplines audiology staff in conjunction with the Administrative DirectorCoordinates medical residency education and Audiology graduate student intern program with area universities and maintains agreements in conjunction with the Administrative Director.Develops and modifies audiology policies, procedures, and operating protocols to ensure quality performance in conjunction with the Administrative Director. Collects and maintains department-related statistical reports related to audiology.Maintains current knowledge of technical and business developments and communicates relevant information to the workgroup.Serves as the staff resource audiologist for staff, physicians, patients, and family members for the cochlear implant program and other special auditory programs that may be implemented.Collaborates with the department head in writing and formulating audiology policies and procedures. Make recommendations regarding capital budget expenditures.Provides guidance to and serves as a professional resource for graduate students completing a clinical practicum.Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature, and by attending related seminars, conferences.Communicates relevant information to audiology staff.Facilitates audiology staff meetings as requested. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
