\tElemental Enzymes is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented applicant to join our Manufacturing team as a Manufacturing, Science, and Technology (MS&T) Intern reporting to the Principal Manufacturing Scientist. This individual will assist in performing biochemical based chemical synthesis (peptide); working with the Process Development team, to optimize our processes. This individual must be detail oriented and able to communicate effectively in a small team of fellow scientists, engineers, and technicians. The successful candidate will join a team that is passionate about creating sustainable, biochemical based solutions to agricultural challenges.\r

\tResponsibilities include\r
\r
\t\r
\t\tWork with the Principal Manufacturing Scientist to run pilot scale peptide synthesis experiments by designing, performing, and analyzing pilot scale and upstream and downstream workflows with an eye towards scale up.\r
\t\r
\t\tPerform analytical testing to support experiments.\r
\t\r
\t\tAssist in preparing reports summarizing experiment results.\r
\t\r
\t\tWork collaboratively to develop and execute multistep workflows to deliver high-quality, cost-effective biochemical products.\r
\t\r
\t\tMaintaining accurate, real-time records of production activities\r
\t\r
\t\tAssist in assessing feasibility of new equipment and technologies for production workflows.\r
\t\r
\t\tUse analytical skills to prevent and solve possible process complications and problems.\r
\t\r
\t\tInvestigate any process deviation. Write deviation reports and initiate document change requests.\r
\t\r
\t\tAssist in management of the peptide lab and facilities (including environmental control and equipment maintenance) and lab and warehouse inventories.\r
\t\r
\t\tOther duties as assigned.\r

\tRequired Experience\r
\r
\t\r
\t\tStudent or recent graduate at a Masters or PhD level in specializing in Organic or Synthetic chemistry, or related field (e.g. Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering)\r
\t\r
\t\tExperience working in chemical reactions, specifically protein-based chemistries (e.g. peptides, amino acid synthesis, etc.) strongly preferred.\r
\t\r
\t\tExperience in organic synthesis and in solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) preferred.\r
\t\r
\t\tExperience in downstream organic chemistry recovery and purification, e.g. recovery technologies, such as chromatography, and drying technologies, such as lyophilization will be beneficial.\r
\t\r
\t\tExperience and ability to operate analytical equipment (Mass spec, HPLC, GCMS, etc.) strongly preferred.\r

\tRequired Skills\r

\t\tMust exhibit an attention to detail and have excellent record-keeping skills.\r
\t\r
\t\tFamiliarity with chemical and biological risks of working in a plant and laboratory environment with experience in handling hazardous chemicals is required.\r
\t\r
\t\tNeed to possess great verbal/written communication skills and be a self-starter.\r
\t\r
\t\tMust be excited to work in a close-knit, fast paced working environment, with an innate curiosity; being comfortable learning and working outside of your area of expertise.\r
\t\r
\t\tNeed to have the ability to adapt to changing priorities.\r
\r
\r

\tPhysical Requirements\r
\r
\t\r
\t\tMust be able to life, crouch, stand, kneel, and work for extended periods of time. This position requires full mobility of the wrists, hands, and fingers. Those with this position must be able to work in Biosafety Level 1 and 2 Laboratories which can cause more illnesses to those with immunocompromised systems.\r
\t\r
\t\tMust be able to wear typical lab PPE.\r
\t\r
\t\tMust be able to lift and move items up to 50 lbs.\r
\r
