FPGA Engineer

Battelle is seeking a dynamic Principal/Senior FPGA Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge RF/microwave systems utilizing FPGA technology for applications in cyber, DoD communications, and commercial communications solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in FPGA firmware/software design, particularly in 3GPP systems, and will collaborate closely with antenna engineers on state-of-the-art phased array antennas. This role also involves working with open standards such as VITA49.2, O-RAN 7.2, and eCPRI. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to present technical findings to various stakeholders, contribute to new business development, and travel as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of FPGA-based RF systems for diverse engineering projects
• Mentor and train junior engineers
• Coordinate with customers and sub-contractors
• Create technical documentation and reports
• Conduct testing in laboratory and field settings

Qualifications:

• Minimum 8 years of experience in FPGA development for communications and DSP applications
• Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, and C/C++
• Experience with Electronic Beam Steering and RF architectures
• Previous leadership experience in technical teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with Xilinx RFSoC
• Knowledge of Software Defined Radio platforms
• Proficiency in MATLAB for DSP analysis
• Background in electromagnetic theory and antenna design
