Summary
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan invites applications for the position of Lecturer I in Tamil language beginning August 30, 2024.

Responsibilities*
Responsibilities include instruction at any assigned level and active involvement in teamwork and program affairs. The appointment level will be 100%.

Required Qualifications*
Applicants should have a Master's degree in a relevant field, such as language pedagogy (in Tamil language preferred), second language acquisition, or linguistics, from an accredited
institution. Native or near-native proficiency in Tamil and English is required; at least one year of experience teaching Tamil at the post-secondary level at North American institutions
preferred.

The Tamil typing skill is necessary using the University LMS, and therefore, the successful candidate will be required to show their proficiency.

Desired Qualifications*
Preference will be given to candidates with solid Tamil linguistics knowledge and are familiar with contemporary second language teaching methodologies, instructional technologies, heritage/non-heritage teaching, and curriculum development.

Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
