Job Description Summary:

Responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom. The instructor must remain current in the discipline area and continually explore teaching methods and strategies to engage learners, organize and plan instructional content that accommodates diverse learning styles, and devise appropriate assessment tools that monitor student learning outcomes. The instructor is also responsible for participating in related activities to include professional development, academic advising, curriculum design, and other activities that contribute to the department, division, and College. The instructor performs all other duties as directed by the Department Chair, Division Dean, or the President or designee.

Resident Faculty: A termed faculty position, renewable annually in accordance with the contract. This Resident position is held for the department chair to return to a faculty position.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master's degree in chemistry.
  • At least 1 year of teaching experience in chemistry lecture and lab at the college level, or pertinent professional experience relevant to teaching area.

AREA SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Monitors chemistry laptops, computers, and software and ensures timely updates.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance, inventory control and monitoring of chemistry instrumentation in the laboratory spaces.
  • Maintain the chemistry e-Organization.
  • Work closely with the Department Chair to develop annual instrument upkeep and maintenance budgets and submit these annual budgets to the Dean.
  • Reestablish and maintain vendor relationships for chemistry instrumentation.
  • Ensure viability of instrument output devices.
  • Stock instrument consumables.
  • Ensure SOPs and login records are available for each instrument.
  • Test fume hoods, chart and report fume hood performance.
  • Update and upgrade labs.

Job Requirements:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
