The City of Irvine seeks an Associate Planner to serve in areas of planning, project management, and analysis tasks related to assigned projects or duties in the areas of development, environmental review, zoning, General Plan, and land use matters.

Your Impact

Review development plans, documents, technical studies, and reports for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with General Plan, codes, ordinances, and state law, under direct supervision.Research and prepare memos, letters, and staff reports and present finding and recommendations to Department personnel and decision makers regarding development proposals.Analyze statistical, written and oral reports, and correspondence related to assigned planning and analytical tasks.Provide information to residents and customers regarding planning standards, codes and permit requirements at the public counter.Participate in the code compliance process, evaluating permit applications and compliance with conditions of approval.Refer to the Associate Planner job description for further details related to each position.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation, Geography, Architecture, Economics, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration or related field. Three years responsible planning experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.May require a valid California driver's license.Best FitPossess relevant planning experience such as project management, public speaking, and presentation skills.Have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and progressive working environment.Exhibit exceptional customer service, written and verbal communication, and critical thinking skills.Be highly organized and efficient, with excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.Be self-motivated and a consensus builder.Be a team player whose successful contribution will uphold Irvine's tradition of excellence.Your Team

The Community Development Department focuses on planning and implementing standards that maintain the City's high quality of life. The department consists of three divisions: Planning & Development Services, Housing, and Building & Safety. Planning and Development Services oversees all current and long range-range planning programs for the City. The division develops, maintains and implements the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance policies and standards. The division is responsible for reviewing and processing all development applications and permits, assisting residents, businesses and developers on all land use planning and zoning inquiries, and coordinating regional and interagency planning efforts. Housing oversees the City's Inclusionary Housing Ordinance, Affordable Housing, One Irvine Residential Rehabilitation Program and all Housing grants. Building and Safety's permit counter, plan check, inspection, code enforcement, and water quality teams ensure that development in the City is designed, constructed, used, and maintained in accordance with the Irvine Municipal Code, California Building Code, and Water Quality standards.

The Process
The selection process will include one or more rounds of interviews, with the requirement to complete a health physical and background investigation, prior to appointment. This recruitment may establish an eligibility list to fill future positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the organization.
